Teacher of English Language and Drama

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key areas of responsibility

 A familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum as it pertains to the Teacher’s assignment.

 Deliver a structured and progressive Drama curriculum for middle school students, ensuring alignment with school objectives and international standards.

 Develop students’ performance skills, creative expression, and critical appreciation of drama.

 Foster motivation and sensibility toward drama and the performing arts, nurturing both confidence and artistic integrity.

 Ability to teach and assist students with completing assigned tasks and classwork (including coursework).

 The ability to adapt and differentiate materials in collaboration with other department members.

 Implementing own lesson plans using Cambridge guidelines and materials

 Creating new project-based Drama units

 Assist in monitoring student progress towards set learning goals and provide feedback, guidance and reinforce taught concepts where necessary.

 Make Drama and English-related extra-curricular activities available to students.

 Work closely with colleagues in Art and Music to design and implement integrated learning experiences.

 Initiate and support creative cross-curricular projects that connect Drama with other subjects and school activities.

 Contribute to collaborative performances, exhibitions, and events that showcase student work across the arts and promote Drama and English to students and the wider community.

 Actively promote the Expressive Arts program to attract students interested in pursuing Western-style arts education in China.

 

Social and behavioural support:

 The Drama and English teacher will provide social and behavioural support, evidenced by fostering a respectful, positive, safe, student-centred environment that is conducive to learning.

 Assisting with safe transitions and supervision of students.

 Supervise, observe and encourage positive student behaviour in a developmentally appropriate way and in keeping with the values of our school.

 Supervise students during field trips and at school assemblies.

 Assist with duties as required.

 Dialogue with the Head of Departments / Head of Secondary regarding student academic progress and behaviour.

Requirements:

Qualification and Experience

 Master’s degree in Drama or English-related subject is preferred.

 Prior experience working in an educational setting as a Drama teacher

 PGCE or equivalent qualifications.

 Able to speak and write like a first-language English speaker.

 Strong organisational skills.

 A lifelong learner who is willing to learn and use basic teaching methods, techniques, and procedures in the classroom.
