All NBIS students must wear uniform when attending school.
The prescribed uniform has been published to parents and is attached again at the end of this notification.
NBIS parents obtain the uniform directly from the uniform company via Tao Bao.Information about this has been released previously and is attached again at the end of this notification.
All matters pertaining to the ordering and purchasing of the uniform, including returns, exchange and refunds, are between the company and the parents.
There is a degree of flexibility within the uniform. For example, on the first day of school, some students may wish to wear a shirt rather than a polo shirt. This is acceptable. Some may wish to wear trousers rather than shorts or skirt. This is acceptable. All tops will bear the embroidered NBIS logo. All items will be from the same company, and so the colours worn will comply with expectations.
For particular occasions when more formality is appropriate, school will inform parents and students ahead of time that they should wear more formal attire, for example - shirt rather than polo and sometimes with tie or bow and jacket.
Additional items: (Not available from the uniform company, but required by school)
Socks: Plain. May be long or short. May be white, black or ink blue (the dark blue to match the uniform). Examples:
Tights/stockings: Black or ink blue (the dark blue to match the uniform). Example:
Leggings: Black or ink blue (the dark blue to match the uniform). Note that leggings cannot be worn as a substitute for trousers. Example:
Footwear: Plain black leather (or simulated leather) shoes or boots. No raised heels. Plain black or white trainers (sneakers) with no obvious logo are also acceptable on a daily basis; but the more formal shoes will be required for formal occasions. Examples:
Hats: EY and Primary students may continue to wear the plain blue sun hats available from the school office. If Secondary Students wish to wear a hat, a baseball cap in plain white, black or ink blue (the dark blue to match the uniform) is appropriate. Hats should not bear any obvious logos, words or images. (Eventually, we hope to have our own NBIS baseball caps with school logo.)
Spare clothing: All EY children will need to have a spare set of the NBIS uniform (top and bottom, along with undergarments) that will be kept at school in case of a need for a change of clothing (for example toileting accidents, or becoming wet during water play). Parents will need to provide this spare set of NBIS uniform which will be kept in their child’s classroom locker.
What happens if a student comes to school inappropriately dressed (ie: not in school uniform)?
Four basic principles apply:
Parents are expected to support the school by ensuring that their child/ren are in uniform before leaving for school.
Teachers will not humiliate or embarrass students.
Interaction with the student will be age appropriate.
The student must comply.
Class Teachers / Homeroom Teachers are responsible to check uniform each morning and to generate a positive attitude by offering positive reinforcement to students/classes that are really looking smart.
NBIS will keep a small emergency stock of uniform items.
First time without compliance: The student will be sent to the School Office to collect a substitute item from the school stock. The item will be borrowed for the day, taken home, washed and returned within 48 hours.
A second time without compliance: The student’s parents will be called to bring in the correct item. Parents are expected to support the school by bringing it in as soon as possible.
Frequent lack of compliance: Parents and students will be called by the principal to find a solution. Finally, the student must comply or may not be able to continue at NBIS.
